Silk Sarees

Silk sarees are produced in Kancheepuram, Dharmavaram, Kumbakonam, Salem (Tamil Nadu), Bangalore, Pochampalli, Varanasi, Baluchari and many other handloom centres. More than 90% of the total consumption of the Indian silk is in the form of sarees. Silk sarees are also exported in large numbers to Indians and people of Indian origin settled abroad.The minimum price of a silk sarees is $ 50 per piece. Embroidered and zari sarees with excquisite handwork would cost above $ 1000 per piece.The amount of labour and skill involved in making of silk sarees makes every one of them a unique piece of art and a prized possession for Indian women .
